1 CORINTHIANS

The First Letter to the Corinthians was written by the Apostle Paul to the Christian church in Corinth, a major, wealthy, but morally corrupt city in ancient Greece. Paul had established this church and was addressing various problems and questions that had arisen within the community after he left. The book tackles issues like divisions and factions among believers, rampant sexual immorality, disputes over lawsuits, guidance on marriage and singleness, the proper understanding of food offered to idols, conduct during worship services, the appropriate use of spiritual gifts, and a strong defence of the resurrection of Christ and believers. Throughout the letter, Paul emphasises the importance of unity in Christ, the supremacy of love, living a life that reflects God's holiness, and awaiting Christ's return. It serves as a practical guide for how believers should live together and interact with the world around them, always centring on the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.
