PSALMS: CHAPTER 120

Psalm 120 is a heartfelt plea from someone who feels surrounded by hostility and deceit. The speaker is crying out to God for rescue from people who spread lies and cause conflict. It expresses the deep distress of living in an environment where peace is despised, and every attempt at harmony is met with aggression. The psalmist laments being forced to live among those who actively seek confrontation, wishing for an escape from their constant antagonism. This psalm is the first in a collection known as "Songs of Ascents," which were perhaps sung by pilgrims travelling to Jerusalem.
