PSALMS: CHAPTER 20

Psalm 20 is a powerful prayer of blessing and intercession for the king on the eve of battle, expressing unwavering trust in the power of God's name rather than military might. The congregation prays that God will defend the leader in the day of trouble, send help from the sanctuary, and grant him the desires of his heart in accordance with divine purpose. The climax of the psalm presents one of Scripture’s most memorable declarations of faith: 'Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.' This psalm challenges us to examine our own idols of self-reliance, inviting us to exchange trust in human wealth, technology, or influence for resting entirely in the victorious name of our Saviour.
