EXODUS: CHAPTER 17

This chapter details two crucial challenges faced by the Israelites in the wilderness. First, after running out of water at Rephidim, the people grumbled fiercely against Moses, doubting God's presence among them. God miraculously provided water by instructing Moses to strike a specific rock. Second, the Israelites encountered their first military conflict with the Amalekites. Through Moses holding his hands high in prayer on a hill, supported by Aaron and Hur, Joshua led the Israelite army to a decisive victory. Following this battle, God declared an eternal war against the Amalekites, and Moses built an altar to commemorate the Lord as their protective banner.
