EXODUS: CHAPTER 4

Chapter 4 of Exodus describes Moses' continued hesitation and God's powerful responses. Moses expresses concern that the Israelites won't believe him, so God gives him three miraculous signs to prove his authority: his shepherd's staff transforming into a snake and back, his hand briefly becoming diseased with leprosy and then instantly healed, and river water turning into blood. Moses still feels he's not a good speaker, which causes God's anger, but God then appoints Moses' brother, Aaron, to be his eloquent assistant and spokesman. After getting permission from his father-in-law Jethro, Moses begins his journey back to Egypt with his family. A mysterious and dangerous incident occurs during their journey where God seemingly tries to kill Moses, which his wife Zipporah averts by circumcising their son. Finally, Moses and Aaron reunite, share God's message and the miraculous signs with the Israelite elders, who, after seeing the proof and hearing God's promise, believe and worship.
