1 SAMUEL: CHAPTER 24

Chapter 24 describes a tense encounter where David, who is being hunted by King Saul, has a perfect opportunity to kill his enemy but chooses to show mercy instead. While Saul is inside a cave to relieve himself, David and his men are hidden deep within it. David's men urge him to kill Saul, reminding him of God's promise, but David refuses to harm the Lord's chosen king. Instead, he secretly cuts off a piece of Saul's robe. Afterwards, David calls out to Saul, proving his innocence by showing the cloth and explaining why he spared Saul's life. Saul, deeply moved, acknowledges David's righteousness, confesses his own wrongdoing, and recognises that David will indeed become the next king. He then asks David to swear an oath that he will not destroy Saul's family line, which David agrees to.
