1 SAMUEL: CHAPTER 23

Chapter 23 details David’s continued evasion of King Saul, punctuated by his acts of leadership and reliance on divine guidance. It begins with David rescuing the town of Keilah from a Philistine attack after twice consulting God. However, David soon learns through prophecy that Saul intends to besiege Keilah to capture him, and the townspeople would hand him over. David and his 600 men swiftly escape into the wilderness. Jonathan, Saul’s son, then secretly meets David to reaffirm God’s promise that David will be king and to offer encouragement. Later, some local Ziphites betray David’s hiding place to Saul, leading to a relentless pursuit. Just as Saul's forces are about to trap David in the wilderness of Maon, an urgent message arrives about a Philistine invasion, forcing Saul to break off his chase. David then relocates to the strongholds of Engedi.
