GALATIANS: CHAPTER 5

Chapter 5 of Galatians addresses the vital theme of Christian freedom. Paul strongly warns believers against returning to the old religious rules, especially circumcision, as a way to be right with God, explaining that such a path makes Christ's sacrifice useless and causes one to lose God's grace. He then transitions to explaining how true freedom in Christ should be lived out. This means not using freedom as an excuse for selfish desires but rather as an opportunity to serve others with love. Paul contrasts the negative actions that come from our human nature ("the flesh") with the positive qualities ("the fruit of the Spirit") that develop when the Holy Spirit guides a person's life. He encourages believers to live by the Spirit, which naturally fulfils the command to love, and warns against destructive behaviours that prevent entry into God's kingdom.
