1 TIMOTHY: CHAPTER 1

Chapter 1 begins with Paul's personal greeting to Timothy, his "true son in the faith." Paul immediately emphasises the crucial task Timothy has in Ephesus: to confront and stop individuals who are spreading incorrect teachings. He warns against pointless discussions based on myths and endless family histories, which distract from genuine spiritual growth through faith. Paul then clarifies the true purpose of God's law, explaining it's not for the righteous but to expose and restrain those who act unlawfully and ungodly. He powerfully testifies to his own past as a persecutor and blasphemer, highlighting God's immense mercy and grace in transforming him. This serves as proof that Jesus Christ came to save sinners, with Paul himself being the chief example. The chapter concludes with Paul commissioning Timothy to persevere in his faith and maintain a good conscience, warning against those who have lost their faith, specifically naming Hymenaeus and Alexander.
