NEHEMIAH: CHAPTER 1

Chapter 1 introduces Nehemiah, who holds a significant position as the king's cupbearer in the Persian capital of Susa. He receives devastating news from his brother Hanani about the dire state of Jerusalem: its walls are destroyed, and the Jewish survivors there are living in great shame and hardship. Overwhelmed by this report, Nehemiah is deeply saddened. He responds by weeping, mourning for several days, fasting, and pouring out his heart in an earnest prayer to God. In his prayer, Nehemiah humbly confesses the sins of Israel, reminds God of His promises to gather His people if they return to Him, and asks for God's favour and success in his upcoming interaction with the king, hinting at his intention to take action.
