EZRA: CHAPTER 1

Chapter 1 of Ezra describes the historical moment when King Cyrus of Persia, influenced by God, issues a decree allowing the Jewish exiles to return to their homeland. This fulfils a prophecy made by Jeremiah. The king encourages the people to go back to Jerusalem and rebuild God's temple, and he calls for those who remain in Persia to support the travellers with resources. Many leaders, priests, and Levites, whose hearts God stirred, decide to make the journey. King Cyrus also graciously returns all the sacred items that had been taken from the original temple by King Nebuchadnezzar, entrusting them to a Jewish leader named Sheshbazzar, along with a detailed list of these precious artefacts.
