NEHEMIAH

The book of Nehemiah recounts the inspiring journey of Nehemiah, a Jewish official serving in the Persian empire. Deeply distressed by news that his ancestral city, Jerusalem, lies in ruins, he passionately prays and then seeks permission from King Artaxerxes to return and rebuild its protective walls. Nehemiah leads the Jewish people through immense challenges, including fierce opposition from neighbouring enemies, to complete the reconstruction in a remarkably short time. Beyond the physical rebuilding, the book also highlights Nehemiah's leadership in social and spiritual restoration, working alongside the priest Ezra to revive the people's commitment to God's laws and covenants, thus strengthening their identity and faith after their return from exile. It's a story emphasising fervent prayer, courageous leadership, and God's faithfulness in restoring His people.
