NEHEMIAH: CHAPTER 13

This chapter finds Nehemiah back in Jerusalem after being away for some time. He discovers that the people have fallen back into many bad habits and are ignoring God's laws. Nehemiah takes swift action to correct these wrongs: he removes a foreign leader who had been given a room in the temple, restores proper support for the temple workers (Levites) who had left their duties, strictly enforces the Sabbath day, making sure no one works or trades, and confronts Jewish men who had married foreign women, whose children were even losing the ability to speak Hebrew. Throughout these actions, Nehemiah constantly asks God to remember his efforts and be merciful to him.
