EZEKIEL: CHAPTER 8

Chapter 8 of Ezekiel describes a powerful vision God gives to the prophet. In this vision, God transports Ezekiel from his home in exile to Jerusalem, specifically to the temple area. God then reveals a series of shocking and terrible acts of idolatry and disobedience being committed by the people of Israel right within His holy sanctuary. Ezekiel is shown four different scenes of people worshipping other gods or engaging in practises that go against God's commands: first, an idol near the temple gate; second, seventy elders secretly worshipping animal images in a hidden room; third, women publicly crying for a pagan god named Tammuz; and finally, important men turning their backs on God's temple to worship the sun. God shows Ezekiel these widespread sins to explain why His presence is about to leave the temple and why His severe judgement is coming upon Jerusalem.
