JUDGES: CHAPTER 14

Chapter 14 introduces Samson, Israel's strong man, as he decides to marry a Philistine woman from the town of Timnath, despite his parents' objections. Unknown to them, this decision is part of God's plan to create conflict with the Philistines, who are ruling over Israel. On his way to Timnath, Samson performs an incredible feat of strength by tearing apart a young lion. Later, he finds a beehive and honey inside the lion's carcase. At his wedding feast, Samson challenges thirty Philistine companions with a riddle based on this secret event. When they can't solve it, they threaten his new wife, who then pressures Samson into telling her the answer. Once they solve the riddle, Samson, fuelled by divine power and anger, kills thirty Philistine men to pay the wager. Furious, he leaves the feast and returns home, only for his wife to be given to one of his companions.
