MATTHEW: CHAPTER 17

Chapter 17 of Matthew describes three significant events in Jesus' ministry. First, Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a mountain where he is "transfigured" – his appearance changes dramatically, shining with divine glory, and Moses and Elijah appear with him. A voice from a cloud confirms Jesus as God's beloved Son. Second, Jesus heals a young boy who was suffering from seizures caused by a demon, after his disciples had failed. Jesus uses this as an opportunity to teach them about the power of faith and the importance of prayer and fasting. Lastly, as they travel, Jesus once again predicts his upcoming death and resurrection. The chapter concludes with Jesus miraculously providing money from a fish's mouth for Peter to pay the temple tax, showing his authority while also demonstrating wisdom in avoiding unnecessary conflict.
