MATTHEW: CHAPTER 3

Chapter 3 introduces John the Baptist, a unique and fiery preacher proclaiming a message of repentance in the desert regions of Judea. He calls for people to turn from their sins because God's heavenly kingdom is near. John confronts the religious leaders, challenging them to prove their change through their actions rather than relying on their heritage. He also prophesies about a much more powerful figure who will come after him, one who will baptise with the Holy Spirit and fire, bringing both judgement and salvation. The chapter culminates with Jesus arriving from Galilee to be baptised by John. Despite John's initial reluctance, Jesus insists, explaining it's necessary to fulfil God's righteous plan. As Jesus is baptised, the heavens open, the Holy Spirit descends on Him like a dove, and God's voice declares Jesus to be His beloved Son, in whom He is well pleased.
