ZECHARIAH: CHAPTER 5

Chapter 5 of Zechariah describes two distinct visions, both centred on God's intention to cleanse the land of Israel from wickedness. The first vision is a giant flying scroll, symbolising a curse that will go out across the entire land to punish those who steal and those who make false promises in God's name, utterly destroying their homes. The second vision shows a large measuring basket called an "ephah," inside which a woman representing "Wickedness" is contained. This basket is then sealed with a heavy lead lid and carried away by two winged women to the distant land of Shinar (Babylon), where it will be permanently established. This symbolises the removal and containment of evil far away from God's people.
