1 CHRONICLES: CHAPTER 13

Chapter 13 describes King David's initial attempt to bring the Ark of God, which represented God's presence, to Jerusalem. David consults with his leaders and the entire assembly of Israel, who all agree that the Ark should be brought back, as it had been neglected since the time of King Saul. A large gathering is organised, and they retrieve the Ark from Kirjath-jearim, placing it on a new cart. As they celebrate joyfully, a man named Uzza reaches out to steady the Ark when the oxen stumble. Because touching the sacred Ark was forbidden, God strikes Uzza dead on the spot. This event deeply troubles and frightens David, causing him to change his plans. Instead of bringing the Ark to Jerusalem, he diverts it to the house of Obed-Edom, a Gittite. The chapter concludes by noting that the Ark remained there for three months, and during that time, God greatly blessed Obed-Edom and his entire household.
