1 CHRONICLES

The Book of 1 Chronicles, originally joined with 2 Chronicles, tells the story of God’s people from a specific viewpoint after they returned from exile in Babylon. It begins by listing the ancestors from Adam all the way to the time of Israel's kings, primarily focusing on the tribe of Judah and the royal family of King David. The main goal of this book was to remind the Jewish people who had come back to their land about their heritage, their covenant relationship with God, and the central role of the Temple in their worship. It emphasised God’s faithfulness to David’s family line and encouraged the community to recommit to true worship and their national identity, drawing hope from their past as they looked to rebuild their future.
