1 KINGS: CHAPTER 2

This chapter details King David's final wishes and his death. David gives specific instructions to his son Solomon, urging him to be strong, obey God, and deal with certain individuals—rewarding those who were loyal to David and removing those who posed a threat or had wronged him. Following David's death and Solomon's ascension to the throne, Solomon acts decisively to consolidate his power. He executes his brother Adonijah, who made a subtle attempt to claim the throne, and removes Abiathar from his priestly office. Joab, a former commander who had supported Adonijah, is also put to death while seeking refuge at the altar. Finally, Solomon executes Shimei, who had previously cursed David, after Shimei disobeys a strict command to remain in Jerusalem. These actions solidify Solomon's rule and establish the stability of his kingdom.
