1 KINGS: CHAPTER 1

Chapter 1 opens with King David as a very old and weak man. His son Adonijah, older than Solomon, takes advantage of David's frailty and attempts to seize the throne for himself, gathering support from powerful figures like Joab and Abiathar. Nathan the prophet, along with Bathsheba (Solomon's mother), discovers Adonijah's plot. They quickly inform David, reminding him of his solemn promise that Solomon would be his successor. Prompted by this urgent intervention, David acts decisively, publicly declaring Solomon as the next king. Solomon is swiftly anointed king in a joyous ceremony, effectively crushing Adonijah's attempted takeover. Adonijah, hearing the news, fears for his life and seeks sanctuary at the altar, where Solomon offers him a conditional pardon. [Rewritten Verses]
