LUKE: CHAPTER 2

Luke Chapter 2 recounts the momentous birth of Jesus Christ. It begins with the Roman census ordered by Caesar Augustus, which required Joseph and a heavily pregnant Mary to travel to Bethlehem, David's ancestral city. There, Jesus is born in humble surroundings, laid in a manger due to a lack of lodging. The chapter then describes an extraordinary angelic announcement to local shepherds, who are told of the Saviour's birth and find him just as described. Later, Jesus is circumcised and named, then presented at the Temple in Jerusalem. There, two devout prophets, Simeon and Anna, recognise the infant Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah, uttering prophecies about his future impact. The chapter concludes with an episode from Jesus's childhood at age twelve, where he is found teaching and discussing with religious scholars in the Temple, astounding them with his understanding, before returning with his parents to Nazareth to continue growing in wisdom and grace.
