JOHN: CHAPTER 14

Chapter 14 of John's Gospel captures Jesus' tender final teachings to his disciples, spoken during the Last Supper, as he prepares them for his upcoming departure. He comforts them, reassuring them not to be troubled, and promises them a place in his Father's heavenly home. Jesus declares himself to be the exclusive path, truth, and life leading to God the Father, explaining his deep unity with the Father. He assures them that they will continue his work, even greater works, and promises to send the Holy Spirit—the "Helper" or "Spirit of Truth"—who will live within them, teach them, and remind them of everything he taught. Jesus emphasises that true love for him is shown by obeying his commands and promises that both he and the Father will make their home with those who love him. He leaves them with a special kind of peace, a peace unlike what the world offers, and tells them that his return to the Father is cause for joy, not sorrow.
