ACTS: CHAPTER 2

Chapter 2 of Acts describes the powerful descent of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus's followers in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost. This dramatic event led them to miraculously speak in various foreign languages, attracting a large and diverse crowd. Amidst confusion and some mockery, Peter, standing with the other apostles, delivered a bold sermon. He explained that this phenomenon was the fulfilment of ancient prophecy by Joel and then powerfully proclaimed Jesus of Nazareth as the promised Messiah, whom God had raised from the dead after the people had crucified Him. Peter urged the listeners to repent and be baptised for the forgiveness of their sins and to receive the Holy Spirit. Over three thousand people responded to his message, becoming believers. The chapter concludes by describing the early Christian community, characterised by their devotion to teaching, communal fellowship, sharing meals, prayer, and a radical commitment to sharing their possessions, resulting in daily growth as the Lord added new believers.
