1 PETER: CHAPTER 3

Chapter 3 of 1 Peter offers practical guidance for followers of Christ on how to live within their relationships and in a challenging world. It begins by advising wives, especially those whose husbands don't share their faith, to lead with respectful behaviour and inner beauty, using the example of ancient holy women. Husbands are then instructed to live thoughtfully with their wives, showing them honour and recognising their equal standing as receivers of God's life-giving grace. The chapter then expands its focus to all believers, urging them to live in unity, compassion, kindness, and to respond to negativity with blessings. Peter encourages them not to fear suffering for doing what is right but to instead honour Christ in their hearts and be prepared to gently explain their hope. He concludes by pointing to Christ's own suffering, death, and resurrection as the ultimate example of the innocent suffering for the guilty, which makes salvation available through baptism and establishes Christ's supreme authority in heaven.
