1 PETER: CHAPTER 4

Chapter 4 of 1 Peter urges believers to adopt the mindset of Christ, who suffered for them, and to live lives dedicated to God’s will rather than worldly desires. It reminds them that their former sinful lifestyle is behind them and that their changed behaviour will seem strange to others, who will ultimately be judged by God. The chapter emphasises that the end of all things is near, calling for spiritual vigilance, fervent love, hospitality, and the proper use of spiritual gifts to glorify God. Finally, Peter addresses the reality of suffering for Christ, encouraging believers not to be surprised by trials but to rejoice in their participation in Christ’s sufferings. He differentiates suffering for wrongdoing from suffering for Christ, affirming that judgement begins with God's people and concluding with an exhortation to entrust their souls to their faithful Creator while continuing to do good.
