2 KINGS: CHAPTER 10

Chapter 10 details Jehu's continued violent purge of the descendants of King Ahab and the complete eradication of Baal worship in Israel. Jehu orchestrates the killing of Ahab's seventy sons in Samaria by tricking city officials. He then eliminates forty-two relatives of King Ahaziah of Judah, who were visiting Ahab's family. Jehu recruits Jehonadab, a faithful follower of the Lord, to witness his intense devotion to God. With Jehonadab observing, Jehu cleverly gathers all the prophets, priests, and worshippers of Baal under the guise of a grand sacrifice. Once they are all assembled in the temple, Jehu’s soldiers massacre them, completely destroying Baal's idols and temple. The Lord commends Jehu for carrying out His will against Ahab’s family, promising his dynasty four generations on the throne. However, Jehu does not fully abandon the idol worship introduced by Jeroboam. As a result, Israel begins to suffer territorial losses to the king of Aram during Jehu's twenty-eight-year reign.
