GENESIS: CHAPTER 15

Chapter 15 records a significant moment where God reaffirms His promises to Abram regarding his descendants and the land he would inherit. Abram voices his concern about having no children and a servant being his only heir. In response, God solemnly promises Abram countless offspring, like the stars in the sky. God then enters into a formal agreement, a covenant, with Abram through a special ritual involving animal sacrifices. During this event, God reveals that Abram's future family will endure a period of slavery and hardship in a foreign land for 400 years before they return to possess the promised land. God also assures Abram he will live a long life and die peacefully. The chapter concludes with God specifying the vast territory, currently inhabited by several nations, that will eventually belong to Abram's descendants.
