GENESIS: CHAPTER 20

This chapter tells the story of Abraham moving to Gerar, where he once again pretends his wife, Sarah, is his sister out of fear for his own safety. King Abimelech of Gerar then takes Sarah into his household. God intervenes in a dream, warning Abimelech that he would die for taking a married woman, but also acknowledging Abimelech's innocent intentions since he had not yet touched Sarah. God instructs Abimelech to return Sarah, explaining that Abraham is a prophet who will pray for his household. Abimelech obeys, confronting Abraham about his deceptive actions. Abraham explains his fear that people would kill him to get Sarah, and clarifies that she is indeed his half-sister. Abimelech generously compensates Abraham with gifts and land. Afterwards, Abraham prays for Abimelech and his household, who had been unable to have children due to God's intervention, and God restores their fertility.
