ISAIAH: CHAPTER 64

Isaiah 64 is a heartfelt prayer of confession and longing from the people of Israel to God. They desperately wish for God to appear and act powerfully, just as He did in ancient times, causing mountains to melt with His presence. The people admit their deep sinfulness and acknowledge that even their best efforts are flawed and impure, likening themselves to withered leaves swept away by their wrongdoings. They lament God's apparent withdrawal and the destruction of their holy cities and the Temple. Despite their unworthiness and God's anger, they appeal to Him as their Father and Creator, reminding Him that they are His handiwork and His people. The chapter ends with a plea for God to stop His intense anger and prolonged silence in the face of their immense suffering and devastation.
