JOSHUA: CHAPTER 7

This chapter tells a story of significant trouble and its consequences for the Israelites right after their victory at Jericho. Despite God's clear instructions not to take anything from the city marked for destruction, one man named Achan secretly kept some valuable items. Because of this hidden sin, when the Israelites went to conquer the small city of Ai, they suffered a surprising and devastating defeat. Joshua and the leaders were heartbroken and confused, asking God why this happened. God revealed that someone among them had broken His command, and that His favour would not return until the forbidden items were removed and the sinner was dealt with. Through a special process, Achan was identified, confessed his sin, and he and all his possessions were destroyed outside the camp. This act cleansed the community and restored God's presence among them.
