PROVERBS: CHAPTER 9

Chapter 9 of Proverbs vividly contrasts two powerful figures: Lady Wisdom and Lady Folly. Lady Wisdom is depicted as building a sturdy house, preparing a rich feast, and sending out invitations from the city's highest points to the simple and those who need guidance. She promises life and extended days to those who accept her offer of spiritual nourishment and understanding. The chapter also includes important advice on how to interact with scoffers versus wise individuals, emphasising that reverence for God is the very foundation of true wisdom. In stark contrast, Lady Folly is portrayed as loud and ignorant, sitting at her door to tempt passersby with the allure of forbidden pleasures—"stolen waters" and "secret bread." However, the chapter reveals that her path, despite its deceptive appeal, leads only to death and destruction, a fate unknown to her naive guests.
