ISAIAH: CHAPTER 26

Isaiah Chapter 26 is a song of unshakeable confidence and resurrection hope for the people of God, looking forward to the day when Judah sings of a strong city whose walls and ramparts are divine salvation. It contains one of Scripture’s most beloved promises: 'Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.' The prophet urges everyone to trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength (the Rock of Ages). The chapter contrasts the humble yearning of the righteous who seek God in the night with the wilful blindness of the wicked, and peaks with an astonishing prophetic glimpse of resurrection: 'Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust.' This chapter invites our anxious hearts to rest in the perfect peace of God’s eternal refuge amid the storms of this world.
