HOSEA: CHAPTER 5

Chapter 5 of Hosea announces God's severe judgement against the leaders of Israel—the priests, the royal family, and the people of Ephraim and Judah—for their deep-seated corruption and unfaithfulness. God exposes their deceptive practises, spiritual adultery through idolatry, and their stubborn refusal to return to Him. He declares that their pride and sin will lead to their downfall. The chapter warns that when they eventually try to seek God with sacrifices, they will not find Him because He has withdrawn. It illustrates God's coming punishment using vivid metaphors: a subtle, slow destruction like a moth or rot, followed by a sudden, violent attack like a lion. The chapter concludes with God stating He will distance Himself until they acknowledge their wrongdoing and earnestly seek Him in their suffering.
