DEUTERONOMY: CHAPTER 32

Deuteronomy Chapter 32, often called "The Song of Moses," is a powerful poetic declaration delivered by Moses to the Israelites just before his death. It serves as a stark reminder and a prophetic warning to the nation. The song begins by calling on heaven and earth to witness God's perfect character, faithfulness, and the incredible care He showed Israel from the very beginning. It highlights how God nurtured them, provided for them, and led them uniquely. However, the song quickly shifts to lament Israel's rebellion and ingratitude. Despite all of God's blessings, they grew prosperous, abandoned Him, and turned to worship false idols, provoking His intense anger and jealousy. Moses then foretells God's severe judgement upon His unfaithful people, describing various calamities like famine, plague, war, and attacks by wild animals. Yet, in His justice, God will not utterly destroy Israel, primarily so that their enemies cannot falsely claim victory over God's people by their own strength. The song reaffirms God's absolute sovereignty as the only true God, who controls life and death, wounds and heals. He vows to take vengeance on His adversaries and ultimately show mercy to His land and people. The chapter concludes with Moses' final instructions, emphasising the vital importance of these words for their life and future prosperity in the promised land, and God's command for Moses to ascend Mount Nebo where he will die after seeing Canaan.
