MATTHEW: CHAPTER 9

Matthew Chapter 9 is packed with amazing events that showcase Jesus's incredible power and his main purpose. It starts with Jesus forgiving a paralysed man's sins and then healing him, which shocks some religious leaders because only God can forgive sins. He then calls a tax collector named Matthew to be one of his followers, and later eats a meal with many tax collectors and others considered "sinners," explaining that he came to help those who are spiritually unwell, not those who think they are fine. Jesus also teaches about the new way of life he brings, using examples like new patches on old clothes and new wine in new wineskins. The chapter continues with more miracles: he brings a dead girl back to life, heals a woman who had been sick for twelve years just by her touching his cloak, gives sight to two blind men, and frees a man who couldn't speak from a demon. While many people are astonished, some religious leaders accuse him of using evil powers. The chapter ends with Jesus feeling deep pity for the huge crowds who seemed lost and uncared for, comparing them to sheep without a shepherd, and asking his disciples to pray for more people to help share his message.
