ISAIAH: CHAPTER 19

Isaiah chapter 19 delivers a powerful message about Egypt. It starts by describing God's coming judgement on Egypt, which will cause their false gods to tremble and their people to lose courage. The chapter foretells a time of civil unrest, where Egyptians will fight against each other, and their leaders will give terrible advice, leading to economic disaster, especially concerning the Nile River. They will turn to magic and idols for help, but it will be useless, as God will hand them over to a cruel ruler. Egypt will experience great fear, even being terrified by the land of Judah. However, the chapter then shifts to a hopeful future, predicting that Egypt will eventually turn to the Lord, establish places of worship for Him, and He will send them a deliverer. God will wound Egypt but then heal them. In a surprising turn, the chapter concludes with a vision of Egypt, Assyria, and Israel all serving the Lord together, becoming a blessing to the world, with God affectionately calling them "my people" and "the work of my hands."
