MARK: CHAPTER 13

In Mark chapter 13, Jesus delivers what is often called the "Olivet Discourse" to his disciples on the Mount of Olives. He begins by predicting the complete destruction of the grand Temple in Jerusalem. His disciples then ask him about when these events will happen and what signs will precede them. Jesus warns them against being deceived by false messiahs and prophets. He describes various future events, including wars, natural disasters like earthquakes and famines, and the persecution his followers will face. He stresses the urgent need for believers to stay firm in their faith and be prepared to flee when certain terrifying signs appear. Jesus then talks about cosmic disturbances that will signal his return with great power and glory, emphasising that while the exact timing is known only to God the Father, his followers must always remain alert and watchful, like servants waiting for their master to return at an unknown hour.
