ZECHARIAH: CHAPTER 3

Chapter 3 presents a prophetic vision where Joshua, the high priest, stands before God's messenger (the Angel of the Lord). Satan appears to accuse Joshua, representing the spiritual state of Israel. God, however, rebukes Satan and declares Joshua (and by extension, the nation) rescued, like a burning stick pulled from a fire. Joshua's dirty clothes, symbolising the people's sins, are removed, and he is given clean, new garments, signifying forgiveness and purity. God then gives Joshua a strong warning and promises him continued leadership in the temple if he remains faithful. The vision also introduces a future figure called "the Branch" and a special "stone" which God promises to use to remove the land's sin in a single day, leading to a future time of peace and prosperity for everyone.
