2 KINGS: CHAPTER 20

Chapter 20 of 2 Kings tells the story of King Hezekiah's miraculous recovery from a deadly illness and a significant mistake he makes afterwards. Facing certain death, Hezekiah pleads with God, who then sends the prophet Isaiah back to promise him an additional fifteen years of life and protection for Jerusalem. God provides a miraculous sign by making the sun's shadow move backwards on a sundial. Later, when Babylonian envoys visit Hezekiah, he unwisely shows them all the treasures of his kingdom, leading Isaiah to prophesy that these very riches and Hezekiah's descendants will one day be carried off to Babylon. The chapter concludes with a brief mention of Hezekiah's other accomplishments and his successor.
