AMOS: CHAPTER 5

Amos Chapter 5 is a passionate, prophetic lamentation delivering God's heartfelt plea for life-saving repentance: 'Seek ye me, and ye shall live.' Amos confronts a society marked by severe social injustice, where the wealthy trample the poor, take bribes in the gate, and build lavish stone mansions while turning justice into bitter wormwood. God fiercely rejects their religious hypocrisy, declaring that He hates their religious festivals, rejects their solemn assemblies, and refuses to listen to the noise of their songs when unaccompanied by active righteousness. The chapter culminates in the famous prophetic standard: 'But let judgement run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.' This chapter reminds us that authentic worship can never be divorced from compassionate, ethical treatment of others, challenging every believer to live out active justice and love.
