PSALMS: CHAPTER 102

Psalm 102 is a heartfelt prayer from someone in deep distress, often referred to as a "Lament of an afflicted one." The psalmist begins by pouring out intense feelings of suffering, expressing how their life feels short, their body is wasting away, and they are surrounded by loneliness and opposition. They attribute their suffering, in part, to God's displeasure. However, the psalm then shifts dramatically, moving from personal anguish to a profound declaration of God's eternal nature and faithfulness. The psalmist finds hope in God's unchanging character and believes that God will surely restore Zion (Jerusalem) and show mercy to His people. This restoration will lead to all nations recognising and praising the LORD. The prayer concludes with a powerful affirmation that while creation will pass away, God remains forever the same, ensuring the future and security of His servants and their descendants.
