ZECHARIAH: CHAPTER 9

Zechariah Chapter 9 begins with a prophetic judgement against several surrounding nations, including cities in Syria (Hadrach, Damascus, Hamath) and the powerful Philistine cities (Tyre, Sidon, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, Ashdod). These nations, known for their wealth and strength, are destined for destruction or significant change, while a remnant among them will turn to the Lord. The chapter then shifts focus to a glorious Messianic prophecy, describing the arrival of a humble yet righteous King for Zion (Jerusalem), who brings salvation and peace, riding on a donkey. This King will abolish warfare and establish a vast, peaceful dominion. The chapter concludes with promises of God's protection for His people, their release from captivity, a future victory over their enemies (symbolised by Greece), and abundant blessings and joy from God's goodness.
