JOSHUA: CHAPTER 2

This chapter tells the story of two Israelite spies sent by Joshua to gather information about Jericho before the invasion. They find refuge in the house of Rahab, a woman who owned a lodging place within the city walls. When the king of Jericho learns of their presence, Rahab hides the spies and misleads the king's search party, allowing the Israelites to escape. Rahab then expresses her belief in the God of Israel and asks the spies to promise protection for her and her family when Israel attacks Jericho. The spies agree, giving her specific instructions and a scarlet cord as a sign. They escape to the mountains, hide for three days, and then return to Joshua, confirming that the people of Jericho are terrified of the Israelites and their God.
