ZECHARIAH: CHAPTER 14

Chapter 14 of Zechariah describes a future time known as "the Day of the Lord," beginning with a devastating attack on Jerusalem by all the nations of the world. While the city will be partially conquered and its people suffer, God will personally intervene to fight for His people. This divine intervention will cause dramatic changes to the landscape, including a massive earthquake that splits the Mount of Olives and creates an escape route for Jerusalem's inhabitants. The passage details unusual atmospheric conditions and the emergence of life-giving water flowing from Jerusalem year-round. Ultimately, God will establish His complete and universal rule over the entire earth, and Jerusalem will be rebuilt, elevated, and made safe forever. The nations that attacked Jerusalem will be struck by a terrible plague, and those who survive will be required to come to Jerusalem annually to worship God, or they will face drought and other punishments. The chapter concludes with a vision of a future where holiness will be found everywhere, even on common objects and animals, signifying God's universal presence and sacredness.
